Building the Bioregional Learning Center

On June 22 we’re introducing the idea of building a Bioregional Learning Center. We’ve been talking about it as a “soft launch,” but in reality it’s the beginning of a process to create the Center and design its programs.

We’re inviting you to a potluck garden party at A Frog House on Thursday, June 22 from 5:30 to 8:30 pm.

RSVP here.

This initiative brings together the work of bioregional activation started by Joe Brewer’s visit to Rochester in February, during which he gave two outstanding talks:

For those who attended these events, it was something of a watershed moment. Since then, we’ve been continuing the discussions both locally and in the context of the wider Great Lakes Region. (Ongoing conversations are hosted weekly through Earth Regenerators, an online community of more than 4700 members around the globe. For details, click here.)

The Learning Center is meant to serve the Genesee Finger Lakes and might be physically located at a remarkable 75-acre property in Honeoye Falls. A kick-off event will be held at the property later this year. Please contact us if you’re interested in attending.

A draft Founding Document has been prepared for the Learning Center, but the Center’s character and programs remain a work in progress. We envision permaculture and agroforestry trainings, volunteer opportunities with on-site camping, ongoing online conversations, and a lot more. We invite you to join us on the 22nd, featuring the “soft launch” of the Center as well as a presentation by Dan Antonioli on “Networking our bio-social corridors: sustainability in the greater Finger Lakes.”
